Munbyn Label Printer FM226

I absolutely love label printers.  There is literally no better way to get organized.  I have reviewed quite a few label makers in my time.  Before buying a label maker you need to take an assessment of what you wish to label.  There is a huge divide between labelling pantry items and warehouse items.  Today we’re going to take a look at the Munbyn Label Printer FM226. ($69.99) The FM226 is a 2″, BlueTooth printer that is small, and lightweight and stylish.  And apparently “FM” stands for Fun Maker.

Before I dig into the review I just want to get this out of the way.  When I printed my first label I was kind of stunned at how crisp, and dark the thermal printing was.  Generally, most label makers are “good enough”, but the legibility here is incredible.

FM226 Key Features

Here is a quick list of features:

  • 8 hours continuous battery life
  • 2000 mAh battery
  • 0.78″ to 1.96″ label sizes accommodated
  • Bluetooth
  • 203 dpi
  • Controlled from Munbyn Print app (IOS, Android)

Munbyn Print App

One thing to note right off the bat is that the Munbyn Print app nor the FM226 auto detect the label sizes.  Before printing your first label please ensure that you select the proper size.

Auto detection means RFID stickers on the label rolls which means you have to buy proprietary labels.

The FM226 does NOT use proprietary labels and the app allows you to create custom label sizes and spacing.   That’s a big plus if you have any label rolls laying around from another printer that will fit.

The app is pretty straight forward and allows for the inclusion of text, icons, illustrations, borders, graphics, images, and even barcodes and QR codes.

That is pretty well rounded for a label printer that fits in the palm of your hand.

The app has a nice layout which is intuitive.

Output

As I mentioned earlier I’m pretty impressed with the printed output of the FM226.  On the internet the “experts” will tell you that you need 300 dpi or better.  That is just the biggest fallacy ever.  When you see what this 203 dpi printer can do on glossy labels you’ll never go back.

Yes, if you zoom way in or look at your label from a quarter inch away you’ll see some anomalies but labels are meant to be viewed from a reasonable distance.  The legibility here is clear.

And as you can see, batch printing is possible.  This label printer is made for home organization, and the home office for the occasional QR code or barcode.

Munbyn Label Printer Labels

Munbyn has a vast selection of labels in different shapes and sizes.  Label selections can be found here.  Ensure that your labels can fit your FM226 before ordering.   Regarding labels I would recommend that Munbyn make a web page for each labeler showing the specific labels that work with each specific printer.

Action

Short but sweet!

Final Thoughts

This is a great label maker for around the house or small business.  The styles and varieties of labels are perfect for small business packaging.  The printer is small, lightweight, uncomplicated with only one button and works flawlessly on Bluetooth.   So should you get one?  Yep, this label maker is a contender.
