xTool D1 Pro Laser Discussion
I have to write this here because the xTool laser Facebook forum just probably wouldn’t allow it. xTool has recently stopped selling the xTool D1 Laser Pro. This has led to about 2 weeks of non-stop whining and crying from D1 and D1 Pro Owners.
First of all let me state that I am NOT one of those complainers. I have a D1 Pro with an extended bed. Mine is 20 watts and I also own the IR module. Here is why I’m not worried.
The D1 first hit the world stage in 2021. That makes it 4 years old. The D1 Pro hit the stage in 2022. 3 years old.
Desktop laser engravers first showed up commercially in 2019. Lasers have just not been around that long. However, every year the technology increases exponentially. Even though the D1 is awesome, it is slowly becoming a dinosaur. There have been incredible advancements in safety and laser technology in general.
If my laser dies, it dies. It has served me well for several years and certainly paid for itself. I’m also not worried because I maintain my machine impeccably and I BOUGHT SPARES.
What The Haters Are Saying About xTool D1 Pro
“If I’d have known they’d drop support I’ve have bought from somewhere else.” Uhhhhhh, every company is going through the same growth cycle basically.
“If I can’t get spares I’m gonna be mad.”
Guess the hell what? If you bought a laser to go into business and make money and you only bought one laser, and no spare parts……….you might have made a very poor business decision. I’ve been saying since 2019 that if you want to have a side hustle business then you need spares and probably 2 machines minimum.
It’s simply not my fault or xTools fault that you bought one machine and it got overcome by technological improvements. And it is really no one’s fault but your own that you didn’t buy spares.
The same people who are complaining probably bought 2 new computers and 2 new iPhones in the same lifetime as the D1 series existed.
Future Proofing
If you want to future proof your business, buy a whole bunch of spares. Or buy multiple machines WHEN YOU START YOUR BUSINESS.
I absolutely loved the first iteration of Ortur Laser Master 2’s. But they are long since obsolete. Oh they still work if you have one but they are old school. Heck even Microsoft Windows drops support for their OS’s all the time.
xTool was and is a very innovative company that should not live in the past. While everyone else is laser engraving on conveyors and doing multiple items on curved surfaces with super fast engraving speeds, remind me how great the D1 series WAS.
Don’t make poor business decisions then blame your supplier. End of rant.
