NTONPOWER GaN Ultra 65W – Perfect Travel Charger

NTONPOWER GaN Ultra 65W – Perfect Travel Charger

NTONPOWER GaN Ultra 65W

Today I am going to be reviewing the NTONPOWER GaN Ultra 65W Charger. I’ve recently been deep diving the USB-C Power Delivery 3.1 standard and am about to hopefully tell you some things about chargers that you didn’t know.

There are quite a few “Fast Chargers” out there for consumers to purchase. Some promise blazing results with the ability to to supply 48 volts at 5 amps with 50% top off times in 30 minutes. All that is true, but here is what you need to know.

It is also true that those state of the art chargers cost usually between $150 up to $200 or even $300. Yikes!

Key Takeaways

  • The NTONPOWER GaN Ultra 65W Charger offers a compact and efficient charging solution for most devices.
  • It balances affordability and performance, unlike expensive options that overshoot power needs.
  • This charger is ideal for travel, easily fitting in carry-ons while providing reliable charging for devices like laptops and iPhones.
  • Use a certified USB-C cable to achieve optimal charging speeds with the NTONPOWER charger.
  • Overall, it’s a practical choice for everyday use and travel, meeting current charging demands without excess.

My Travel Items – First A MacBook Air

As I write this blog I do it from a 2020 MacBookAir M1. This is the charger they shipped with the MacBookAir.

Apple states that the 30 watt charger delivers the most optimum charging profile and while it can accept higher wattage it lacks the standard which allows the “Fast Charge”. I have seen some reports on Reddit that the M1 Air will charge at around 45 watts.

iPhone 13 and 14

I have an iPhone 13 and my wife has an iPhone 14. I know you think a Tech Blog guy should have the latest and greatest phone but the truth is I have no desire to upgrade. Additionally, I typically use my phones until they break. My wife’s thoughts are pretty much the same as mine. (Pssssttttt, she’s a bit Tech challenged anyway. Don’t tell her I said that!)

  • iPhone 13 – Supports a charging rate of 20 watts and sometimes tops out at 23 watts
  • iPhone 14 – Supports a charging rate of 20-27 watts then throttles to prevent overheating

Let’s Say You Have The Latest Of Those Items

  • MacBookAir 2026 – Ships with a 40 watt charger that supplies 60 watts maximum
  • iPhone 17 – Supports a max charging rate of 40 watts

What Is My Point With All This?

Most of us simply DO NOT NEED a $200, 140 watt charger. We don’t. And we don’t want to carry every charging brick with us that we own on a weekend trip.

The NTONPOWER GaN Ultra 65 Watt Charger is all you need. The cost is on par with reality and the size and weight is a perfect fit for your carry on or suitcase.

Caveat

There are some devices that do support 140 watt charging. For example, the latest MacBook Pro will accept a charge rate of 140 watts. Know what you have and plan accordingly.

Things You Need to Know – Charging Chain

NTONPOWER GaN Ultra 65W

NOTE: In the pic above ChatGPT was misbehaving and would not depict the USB-C cable in the correct place. Obviously, it should plug into the front of the charger.

In order to realize the benefits of the NTONPOWER GaN charger every item in the chain must be capable of negotiating charging speeds. In other words if you have the NTONPOWER charger and a MacBookAir but just grab any old USB cable it may not support Power Delivery charging.

If you have a USB-A to USB-C cable between the two devices it definitely won’t charge at that higher rate. You must use a USB-C to USB-C cable that supports the wattage you require.

This leads me to my one and only product recommendation: I would ask NTONPOWER to consider shipping a USB-C cable with their chargers.

Additional Information

When testing for Power Delivery 3.1 standards you need some test equipment to ensure voltage and amperage rates will work as advertised. This is a port scan of the NTONPOWER GaN Ultra 65W charger.

This is exactly what they advertise and it is even written on the side of the box. Gotta love accuracy. And trust me when I say not everyone tells the truth about their charger products. NTONPOWER does.

Other Features

I’ve spent so much time talking about Power Delivery that I need to spend some time on the other features. A short video will suffice to tell that tale.

Closing Thoughts

This does what is says and says what it does. I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that most high dollar, high wattage chargers supply more charging power than our current needs. I’m not aware of any device I own that will negotiate a charge beyond 65 watts. The only exception to that might be another charger.

Unless you have a specific need beyond 65 watts save yourself some serious money and get the NTONPOWER GaN 65W Charger. It is small, light, perfect for travel and has an ingenious cord storage solution.

Addendum

After I finished the review I went looking for somewhere to put this. Many devices I am sent end up in the attic. This freaking thing is COOL. I’m using this. I put this on an end table in my den and every week we cycle through another battery charging station for our phones and laptops and earbuds, etc. I plugged this in the outlet next to the table and not only does it meet all of our needs the NTONPOWER GaN Ultra 65W has kind of a rubbery base and it stays put on the table and doesn’t slide around.

Road warriors and hotel frequent fliers are going to love that this thing stays where you put it.

Suffice to say I love this thing. Are there higher tech, higher power devices out there? Yep. Do I need that kind of power? Nope. This is PERFECT for what I do. And that means a lot because I’m fairly critical of the things I use.
