Dovoh Laser Level H3-360G Review

Like any ordinary guy I love me some tools.  And the higher tech they are, the better.  Laser Level manufacturer Dovoh provided John’s Tech Blog their high accuracy H3-360G Laser Level with their DR1 Receiver.  Although the sample was provided for free the opinions you see written here are mine.

From a professional standpoint I could have used one of these in my working years.  I aligned and certified Aircraft Visual Landing Aids at Navy and Marine Corps Air Stations.  Surveying was a big part of aligning glide slopes.  One set of aids consists of 4 boxes.  The center of each lens should be within 1 inch of each box on average.

I could have set this up and verified that check in seconds.  As it stood it took some time to survey all the boxes, record elevations, do some math, etc.

Who Is This For?

While this seems like it might be more suited for similar jobs like I just described, the truth is that this is for anyone who needs to straighten anything.  Is your windowsill or blinds straight?

If you look real close, mine is not.  It slopes up to the right ever so gently.  Recently I just hung those motorized smart blinds.  I wish I had the H3-360G when I was installing them. I did go back this morning and level all of them.  Blinds that I thought were pretty straight were not PERFECTLY straight.   Now they are.

This would be amazing for landscape work.  I have lots of bushes here and instead of running a string line to keep the trimming straight I can use the laser level.  And this will do smaller jobs as well such as hanging photos.

I could also level my camper pretty quick when using this.  And the dog approves!

What Is In The Kit?

First of all the H3-360G comes with a hard case.  I’m a sucker for a hard case.  Included are:

• Laser Level
• Adapter
• Type C Cable
• Charger
• Receiver
• 2 Batteries
• User Manual
• Magnetic Bracket
• Rotary Base
• Glasses
• Target plate

Including two batteries is huge in my opinion.  After years of working on runways I can tell you that battery life of laser survey gear stopped work more times than I care to remember.  Even though there is a good manual for both the laser level and receiver I prefer online manuals.  The manual is here.

Speaking of survey work there is an optional grade rod for recording heights and elevations.  I really could have used that rod at work on the runway.

Dovoh H3-360 Laser Level Range

Dovoh asked me to do a range test.  Published range is 400′ but sadly my house to street is about 260′ but I still had a mighty strong signal at that distance.  As a homeowner and maker realistically I’d never need a 400′ range.  As someone using this professionally in a work environment you certainly might need that range.

Additional Details

The H3-360G can be mounted on a tripod with the included mount.  The only issue I found with the tripod is that there is not a 5/8″-11 adapter to mount the laser level to the mount. However, just next to that mounting hole is a 1/4″-20.

The included mount has a variety of attaching and mounting methods.

Wrap Up

No more uneven photos on the wall.  Useful in landscaping.  Great for building a deck or fence.

This is for sure the tool that you didn’t know you needed until you start using one.  Now I can’t imagine life without it.  This is one of the best tools that I own now.  I am super impressed with this laser level.
