The Ultimate Floor Cleaning Solution – UWANT D100
On my blog here I do tech. Computers, cameras, Raspberry Pi stuff, laser engravers, etc. I was debating whether or not to agree to review the UWANT D100 Wet Dry vacuum ($239.99 currently) when they reached out to me.
Subsequently, I showed my wife the product link and she told me “that looks amazing, and please say yes”. I was in the Navy and know how to follow orders. I received the UWANT D100 approximately 2 weeks ago and my life hasn’t been the same since.
I’m retired, and my wife works. She gently encourages me to run the vacuum daily despite the fact that I’m a very important person on the internet. 😆. I find myself using this wet dry vacuum on a daily basis because I WANT to use it. It’s fun. And it is pretty doggone amazing.
Our house has hard wood floors, linoleum, tile, and carpet. And it’s a pretty big house. We have every kind of cleaner, mop, and vacuum you can imagine. We have struggled though with keeping the hard wood floors clean around here. No more.
Also it needs to be stated that at no time has UWANT attempted to influence my review. They did provide some testing recommendations which were more than reasonable to showcase the D100, but gave me free reign to do as I saw fit. Let’s take a peek at why I love this machine so much.
UWANT D100
Videos tell the story better than the written word. Check out my video below where I put this thing through the wringer (pun intended).
The best part of this to me is the auto cleaning and auto drying feature. It works, and it works extremely well.
UWANT D100 Automatic Cleaning and Drying
I like finding gotchas. And I thought I might have found one. Have you ever seen those dishwasher commercials where they tout how much water a dishwasher saves? What they don’t talk about is the giant, red, glowing heating element in them that devour power like no one’s business.
Consequently, I thought this was my gotcha. Anything that has a drying function is likely to consume tons of electricity, right? I dug out my trusty Kill A Watt Meter to check the power consumption of the D100. Below are my results.
UWANT D100 Power Consumption (click pics to enlarge)
Here is how it shakes out during the drying cycle which is the most power intensive:
- 167 watts
- 1.38 Amps
Wow! Your TV probably consumes 100-200 watts per hour and you probably have it on all day long. This UWANT D100 will pull these numbers for probably just less than one hour. And most folks are not going to clean the floors daily. I do ours about every 3 days. Trust me when I say I was expecting to see much higher numbers. And I was disappointed that I didn’t find my gotcha.
Not only does the D100 clean itself, and dry the roller brush exquisitely, it does it EFFICIENTLY. This old electronics rep is impressed.
It Speaks
As you probably noticed if you watched my video that it talks to you. It can be easily silenced with the push of a button but I LIKE THE TALKING. Additionally, It tells you exactly what its state is. Then it tells you a variety of relevant information such at the water tank being empty or the waste tank being full. During cleaning it tells you when to dump the waste water and specifically states that it is to prevent bacteria build up.
Mode Button
There are 3 modes of operation:
- Smart
- Turbo
- Dry
I typically run in Turbo on the hard wood flooring. This of course increases water flow and suction which summarily will reduce battery run time a little bit. Dry only mode is just a vacuum and makes quick work of any excess water. I have not found there to be any excess water during cleaning operations. It is very well balanced between water output and suction.
Battery
Speaking of battery run time I have seen quite a bit of differing statements on the internet. I have a huge downstairs with 2 linoleum rooms and a gigantic hard wood flooring area. Then I slapped a timer on myself and I cleaned the entirety of my downstairs area on Turbo Mode. I did it slowly and methodically. It took me almost 25 minutes. Upon completion I still had 2 bars of energy showing.
People can fight or complain about run times but I find it way more than sufficient and you will too.
Smell
The downstairs smells amazing when I am done. This is from the removable deodorant stick installed in the D100. It is recommended to change it every 3-5 months Bonus points for UWANT.
Extras
They provide an extra filter, roller, a cleaning brush, and a 500ml bottle of deep cleaning solution. They don’t include another deodorant stick though. A quick perusal on the website shows that while you can buy deep cleaning solution by itself you can only get the deodorant stick in an accessory kit.
This leads me to my one and only recommendation. I recommend that UWANT offer the deodorant sticks for purchase separately.
The Ultimate Cleaner
I can’t stress how much I love this thing. IWANT (that’s a play on words) to use it frequently. It feels more like fun tech to me than house husband cleaning. I think you’ll feel the same way.
