xTool X1 – The Ultimate Consumer Laser

xTool X1

I don’t think most people realize that the consumer level laser engraver has only been around a handful of years. xTool was one of the first to market with their desktop laser which was released in 2020. In six short years we have gone from a basic plotter moving along an X and Y axis to the current offering of the xTool X1 and Hybrid Motion.

I’ve been reviewing lasers since 2019 or so and about the time I think the engineering limits of consumer laser engravers has been reached I get proven wrong. And boy, did the xTool X1 prove me wrong yet again. This is the most advanced laser to date that I have come across.

Introducing The xTool X1

Here is my introduction to the X1.

What’s So Special About The xTool X1?

The xTool X1 is capable of 5 different laser operations. It comes with:

  • 55 watt CO² laser

Additionally, it can be configured to include any one of the following. The UV, fiber, and MOPA laser backpacks can only be installed one at a time for 3 functional laser operations.

  • 5 watt UV laser
  • 30 watt fiber laser
  • 60 watt MOPA laser
  • 20 watt 455 nanometer blue diode laser – added anytime

Let’s stop right here and think about this. The xTool X1 can have 3 different functional lasers at any given time. All three lasers can be configured in software to operate on one project without lifting the lid. With the xTool X1 I can do white text on black acrylic with the 5 watt UV laser and then cut my outline with the 55 watt CO² laser. This is huge. Especially from a production standpoint. As they say, “time is money”.

Also, as it relates to hardware costs, my shop consisted of a 30 watt fiber laser, an xTool F1, another brand of diode laser, another diode and IR combo laser, and finally a 50 watt CO² laser. While I opted for the 5 watt UV laser for my X1, I can presumably get rid of every other laser I own if I purchase the fiber or MOPA backpack assemblies from xTool. And while one machine can replace them all, let’s not forget how much SPACE I will gain back in my very crowded office.

The xTool X1 is the machine I have been waiting for.

You can do a deposit pre-order ($100) on October 12, 2026 at this link. Here is the first month’s pricing data:

First Impressions

Since my machine came configured with a diode laser, CO² laser, and the UV laser my very first impression when using the X1 is that I can configure the xTool Studio software to use each one of those lasers on the same project without ever lifting the lid or moving the object being engraved. I do lots of work with black acrylic and white lettering. First I use the UV module to engrave my text or design then I can cut the acrylic with the CO² laser. IMPRESSIVE! For me, this is the killer feature.

Secondly, I have never owned a UV laser before. I am having a blast engraving K9 crystal blocks. The results are astounding.

Another impression is that mirror alignment for the CO² and UV (or fiber or MOPA) is the easiest I have ever seen. When I bought my first K40 laser many years ago aligning the mirrors seemed to be a dark art. Regarding the setup and alignment process, xTool has really done a great job here. Alignment takes only seconds, not hours.

I got the Eiffel Tower engraving from the excellent ATOMM website. ATOMM has tons of projects available for download and you can create and upload your projects to the community!

NOTE: Be sure to buy K9 crystal from a good source. There are plenty of places that sell K5 glass as K9 and K5 will not engrave. Sadly, I learned this the hard way. I finally purchased some blocks directly from xTool which worked great.

On the second engraving I used the AI feature in xTool Studio to take a photo of our dog and then engraved him in a block. I’m stunned at the results. This is going to be fun and a moneymaker.

Conversely, I did the same thing with the passion flower. Took a photo and ran it through the AI feature and it also turned out amazing.

This thing will do batch printing as well. Time is money, remember?

More To Come Soon

Because the X1 is in a deposit pre-order status this blog is just an introduction to the xTool X1. I’ll be posting more in the near future. I can tell you that this is an impressive machine. I think I have reviewed just about every laser there is so I feel confident saying that. Stand by for some project posts to come in the days and weeks ahead.
