RV Lock Review – Onnais Guard Smart Max

I bought a camper a few years back when my daughter left the roost and I found myself alone. On my first outing I got up to use the bath house in the middle of the night. Somewhere along the line I dropped my key. It was pitch black, the key was black, and there were tons of leaves covering the ground. It became apparent very quickly that I needed a good RV Lock.
Enter the Onnais Guard Smart Max RV Lock ($199). I don’t believe there is any better RV Lock out there after having used this for a bit. There are so many methods of locking and unlocking that it isn’t funny.
Here is a quick list of ways this lock will work for you:
- Keypad Entry – The Keypad is lit
- Key Entry – Under the center seal where it says “ONNAIS” is a standard lock
- FOB – Just like for your car. Lock and unlock
- Bluetooth – Via an app you install on your phone
Now just suppose for a minute that the batteries are dead and you did not take your FOB with you which also contains the key. Next to the keyhole under the center seal is a USB-C port for providing emergency power to the lock.

That’s a cool trick. Even if you aren’t walking around to the bathhouse with a power brick I can pretty much guarantee that someone in the RV has one.
And this might be one of those situations where you keep a charged brick and cable in an exterior storage box. I have a couple, even on my super small camper.
Safety And Security
I don’t know how to expand on this statement a lot and it kind of stands by itself anyway.
You will feel enhanced safety and security while sitting behind this lock and consequently when you leave the campsite and not having to worry about your stuff.
Promo Video
I made a quick video just to highlight the appearance of the Onnais RV Lock.
Installation of Onnais RV Lock
The lock fits in a very standard size cutout of 3.75″ x 2.75″ x 1.5″ from the door, and 1.25″ – 1.5″ door thickness.

And installation is straightforward and is a breeze. I made a quick video to try to depict the process.
It literally took me about 10 minutes to install this. All the tools you need are included in the RV Lock kit.
Progamming
Programming instructions for the keypad and FOB’s are very simple and logical. Just make sure that you have the manual turned to the page below before you set your password. Also take note that the administrator password is on the top of the page. It is 12345.

Using The App

I showed a segment of setting up the app in one of the videos I posted earlier. Here is MY scenario.
My small camper has no toilet. So consequently I only camp where there are nice bathhouses. If I am just going to use the restroom there is a fair chance that I’ll take my phone with me.
Which is perfect because now I can lock or unlock the door with just my phone.
This lock is so diverse and has so many methods of locking and unlocking making it a giant in the RV Lock game, in my opinion.
If you started out camping like I did with just a key lock then this is where you need to evolve to.
Camping is fun, right up to the point that you lose your key in 2″ of wet, dark leaves.
This is the cure for that.
Mea Culpa Time
I already had a smart lock on my camper which had been serving me well. When offered to review the Onnais Smart Lock I knew in my mind that I had the option of putting my original lock back on after the review if this didn’t check all the boxes for me.
Current Status Of That Decision
My previous smart lock is in a zip lock bag and listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The Onnais W008 Smart RV Lock has found a permanent home.
